Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is chiropractic care?

Chiropractic as a form of health care addresses the well-being of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine, and the nervous system. Problems in these systems can cause moderate to severe pain. The chiropractor addresses these problems with various techniques: manipulating the spine and joints, coming up with an individual exercise program, and examining the patient’s lifestyle. Sometimes, a simple correction of posture will alleviate the problem.

Disorders of the spine and nervous systems (which might or might not be noticeable) can trigger problems in other systems of the body, affecting one’s overall health. As just one example, painful inflammation of the digestive system can be triggered by disorders of the spine and the nerves.

By addressing the very core of the human body (spinal and nervous system), the chiropractor addresses the patient’s overall wellness.

  • Is chiropractic care right for you?

People most often think of a chiropractor when their back or neck pain becomes too intense to ignore. But chiropractic addresses a variety if problems beyond spinal pain: headaches, arthritis, digestive complaints, and more.

Not enough people schedule appointments for preventative care. But the saying is true about “An ounce of prevention.” Even if you have no complaints, you can benefit from a visit to the chiropractor. You can avoid pounds—even tons—of corrective care needed later, with simple evaluations, in-office exercises and coaching done now. One focus of the chiropractor is to monitor and promote ongoing, overall wellness.

Chiropractic care can be right for any age, from infant to adult.

  • Do I need problems/symptoms to benefit from care?

No. We all grow old, yet many aspects of the aging process can be prevented or alleviated with proper treatment. Chiropractic adjustments can maintain the spine’s alignment, which allows a proper brain-to-body connection and promotes general health.

Monitoring can catch spine problems earlier, when they are easier to treat, rather than later, when rehab is difficult, or when surgery becomes the only option.

  • What level of care can I expect?

This will depend entirely on your individual situation. Together, you and your chiropractor will set goals based on your condition and your needs.

If you’re seeking an evaluation, or preventative adjustments, treatments can be simple and routine (with some exercises possibly done in your home). Just as you have your teeth checked and cleaned regularly to avoid drilling and extraction if possible, regular checkups at your chiropractor can avoid more serious problems down the road.

If you have a condition requiring chiropractic rehab, you and your chiropractor will select the course and length of your treatment from the options available. Many factors will come into play, such as age, degree of the problem, and how long you’ve had it, and a one-on-one session is the best way to plan your individual level of care. All along the way, you will be kept fully informed and know what to expect.
